Spent at least 2 seasons in the Great Lakes Lacrosse League (GLLL) until participation dwindled. Hope to see a revival as lacrosse in Iowa continues to grow.

Comment on Should PLL All Stars Fan Vote Be Changed? by mounir https://laxallstars.com/pll-all-stars-fan-vote-change/#comment-114328 Mon, 12 Jul 2021 02:35:14 +0000 https://laxallstars.com/?p=251533#comment-114328 The PLL designed the all-star selection system as fan-based for reason, presumably because ‘the customer is always right’. The benefit is straightforward: a fan-selected roster means fans are more likely to view and more audience satisfaction. That said, the issue with the fan vote is not that it is the fans voting. The issue is more so that all votes are weighted equally, so a possible solution to this could be a weighted voting. For example, players’ votes weigh 25%, coaches’ votes weigh 25%, committee/employee votes weigh 25% and fans’ votes weigh 25%.

“Fun Fact
Lacrosse is part of the cultural tradition of the Iroquois people. The Iroquois men’s national lacrosse team, known as the Iroquois Nationals, represents the Iroquois Confederacy in international competitions. The team achieved Bronze at last year’s World Championships.”

Comment on Premier Lacrosse Fighting: A Look At This Dilemma by Matt Anderson https://laxallstars.com/fighting-premier-lacrosse-dilemma/#comment-98353 Thu, 20 Jun 2019 20:13:35 +0000 https://laxallstars.com/?p=182628#comment-98353 In reply to Owen Blank.

Thanks for your comment, Owen.

This article wasn’t supposed to be a take so much as it is an examination of pros and cons on whether it would hurt or help business for the PLL.

The reason I selected the WWE is because of the commonalities in fan base from the PLL to the WWE. Note how I did address that if the PLL is as scripted as the WWE, it should hurt rather than help their case. A lot of users on social media have been commenting on the fact that these fights seem scripted.

We also make the comparison to hockey where fighting is prevalent, and how the NHL has made rapid growth over the last few years while having fighting as a mainstay of their league.

Thanks for sharing your opinion on what you think about fighting in field lacrosse as well. Check out our other article by Ryan Conwell on his opinion of fighting in the PLL.

Would love to hear more of your thoughts!

Comment on Premier Lacrosse Fighting: A Look At This Dilemma by Owen Blank https://laxallstars.com/fighting-premier-lacrosse-dilemma/#comment-98352 Thu, 20 Jun 2019 18:51:29 +0000 https://laxallstars.com/?p=182628#comment-98352 I think this is a bit of a weird take. You picked the WWE, a known scripted event as opposed to say MMA or Boxing which are sanctioned sports. I draw the conclusion that you are more interested in the entertainment value than the lacrosse value.

As a one of event I don’t think it hurts the PLL from a marketing or creditability standpoint. But if this becomes the go to thing week in and week out I think it hurts the league. Self-policing is one thing, scripted can become lame quickly. And I say this as a man who still cherishes seeing McCarty beating down Lemieux in a fight an entire state knew was going to happen.

I think fighting in field is a horrible idea. I’ve played box for 10 years or so. And every 20 something American seems to feel all contact means it’s time to throw down. This has carried out on the field leagues I play in too. It’s stupid. You don’t like a hit, lay a guy out, or take a shot right at him and move on. For once baseball has the right idea when guys eat pitches. The beef generally ends and life goes on. I know all the hockey guys love it, but it just seems so try hard to me.
