Another Vail Lacrosse Shootout is in the books after an incredible nine days of play in the Vail Valley. The final day of the 2021 tournament concluded with the Men’s and Women’s Elite division championships, won by Mohawk Tile and LGR, respectively.

LGR finished their domination of the Women’s Elite bracket with an 8-5 victory over Win or Booze. Win or Booze hung in for as long as they could with multiple answered goals, but in the end, LGR’s determination and focus won them the game. 

In the Men’s division, it was a battle of solid lines of defense matched up against some extremely skilled shooters. Ultimately, Mohawk Tile, who has been steadily climbing the rankings for the past few years, won out against newcomers and 16-seeded Texas Forever.

It was an exciting day of play on the second Saturday of the 2021 Vail Lacrosse Shootout. The Men’s and Women’s Elite divisions completed their semi-final games and determined their championship contenders.

LGR and Win or Booze will face off in the Women’s division. LGR has been winning decisively against all of their opponents so far, but Win or Booze will be riding the high off of an exciting overtime win against Pete’s Margs.

On the Men’s side, Mohawk Tile will take on newcomers Texas Forever, who had an exciting overtime win of their own against Rocky Mountain Oysters in their semi-final game. The Men’s Masters division concluded their round robin tournament with 10^th Mountain Whiskey taking home their first championship since they’ve joined the Shootout.

There was no rest for lacrosse players or staff on the seventh day of the Vail Lacrosse Shootout. The tournament continued with bracket play in the Men’s and Women’s Elite and round robin in the Men’s Masters divisions.

Tomorrow, the Men’s Masters division will crown a champion based on record. Currently, the 10^th Mountain Whiskey team is the only one with a 3-0 record, but there’s still a chance for some of the 2-1 teams. In the Women’s Elite division, The Tools, LGR, Win or Booze, and Pete’s Margs will compete in the semifinals. On the Men’s Elite side, Texas Forever, Rocky Mountain Oysters, Mohawk Tile, and BGH will all have a chance to make it to the championship game.

The second half of the 49^th Annual Vail Lacrosse Shootout kicked off with the Men’s and Women’s Elite divisions and the Men’s Masters (30+) division. The Men’s Elite division completed the first round of their single-elimination bracket, sending eight teams to the quarterfinals tomorrow. The Women’s Elite completed pool play, determining placements for three conferences. Bracket play will start tomorrow. The Men’s Masters completed their first of three days of round robin and will continue tomorrow.

The Vail Lacrosse Shootout reached its halfway point on Wednesday as the U19 Boys and Girls closed out their divisions with four separate championship games. On the Boys side, newcomers MadDog Lacrosse made a championship win almost look easy with a decisive win against ADVNC SF. In the Girls Gold division, Hero’s Lacrosse defeated the defending champions Team HLA. The Silver division champion was Team Tennessee after an 11-6 victory over No-Excuse. It was a hometown showdown in the Bronze division first-place game with 5280 Girls Lacrosse winning against True Denver Black 8-5.

The second half of the Shootout kicks off tomorrow with Men’s and Women’s Elite and Men’s Masters divisions.

Although the fourth day of the Shootout consisted of significantly less teams and divisions than the previous two days, it was still a day full of excitement. Both the U19 Girls and Boys divisions determined which teams will duke it out in the championship games on Wednesday in Vail.

In the U19 Boys division, both semi-final games came down to the wire, with the final score coming within one point in both. The first semi-final was a heated competition between perennial contenders FCA and newcomers MadDog Lacrosse. FCA seemed to have a good hold on the lead throughout the game, but MadDog put their foot on the gas in the fourth quarter and were ultimately able to come away with the lead. The second semi-final was a battle of the west coast with defending 2019 champs Adrenaline Tropics against ADVNC SF. Both teams refused to quit throughout with an evenly matched back-and-forth, with ADVNC proving victorious in the last two minutes of the game.

A massive 24 teams in the Girls division means there are three different brackets, which will result in three different champions. In the Gold division, Hero’s Green will take on Team HLA, the defending champs, to see who will be crowned best of the best. In the Silver division, Team Tennessee will go against No-Excuse. Finally, the Bronze division will determine a champion between 5280 Girls Lacrosse and True Denver Black.

On Day 3 of the Vail Lacrosse Shootout action, the Elder Statesmen declared themselves dominant over the field yet again and the stage has been set for the semifinals in other divisions. Here’s the rundown of what happened Monday:

Elder Statesmen Dominate in Vail

The third day of the 2021 Vail Lacrosse Shootout was another one full of multi-generational lacrosse. The U19 girls continued with their second day of pool play, while the U19 boys began bracket play with quarterfinal games in Division 1. They will continue with semi-finals tomorrow.

The Supermaster, Grandmaster, and Zenmaster men’s teams closed the book on their 2021 tournaments with championship games today. The Statesmen fought and won to sweep the tournament once again. In Supermasters, the Elder Statesmen took on the Magic Wands in another heated matchup between the two teams. The Elder Statesmen came out on top with a score of 10-7. The Elder Statesmen Grandmaster team took on EMW beating them 10-6. The Zenmasters championship was a battle between the Eldest Statesmen and Los Abuelos de Tejas, with the Statesmen taking home another win at 9-5.

After a one-year hiatus because of the pandemic, the Vail Lacrosse Shootout is back in 2021. The Vail lacrosse tournament has plenty of history dating back decades, and it’s with warmth that we welcome this staple of lax summer back into the fold.

2021 Vail Lacrosse Shootout

Day 1

Lacrosse veterans and fans returned to Vail again after a long 2020 without a
Shootout. Day 1 of the 49th annual Vail Lacrosse Shootout kicked off with men 40
and over. The Supermasters (40+), Grandmasters (50+), and Zenmasters (60+)
played their first games since 2019. In an action-packed day, spectators witnessed
two overtime games. The men will take some much-needed rest tonight and pick
up with bracket play tomorrow. The U19 Girls and Boys will also take to the fields
with the Shootout’s most active day of the tournament.

Day 2

The second day of the 2021 Vail Lacrosse Shootout was a busy one. Almost 50 games were played across five divisions with players’ ages ranging from the teens to sexagenarians. The Boys and Girls U19 teams kicked off their divisions with pool play to determine seeding.

Meanwhile, the older men’s divisions held semi-final games. The Statesmen are looking for a repeat of the sweep across three divisions they had in 2019, with their Supermaster, Grandmaster and Zenmaster teams all making a championship appearance yet again. The Zenmasters will start the day with Eldest Statesmen facing Los Abuelos de Tejas in the championship. After that, Grandmasters will take the field and see who is number one between Eldest Statesmen and EMW. Finally, the Supermasters championship should not be missed, with a rematch of last year’s nail biter final between Elder Statesmen and Magic Wands.

The Vail Lacrosse Shootout is back for its full tournament format again in 2021. Due to COVID-19 restrictions in 2020, only an unofficial tournament took place with socially distanced staff members. This year’s event will commence on June 26 and conclude on the Fourth of July holiday. The Shootout will look much like it has in years past while still adhering to local health ordinances.

This summer about 2,000 lacrosse players from the ages of 17 to 60 will once again convene in the scenic mountain resort of Vail, Colo. Teams will compete across nine divisions over nine days, bringing exciting and competitive lacrosse action to the Colorado mountains.

The first weekend of the tournament kicks off with the Men’s Supermaster (age 40-50), Grandmaster (age 50-60), and Zenmaster (age 60+) divisions on Saturday, June 26. The U19 Boys and Girls divisions begin the following day featuring some of the country’s top young competitors.

The second half of the tournament begins on July 1 with the Men’s and Women’s Elite and Men’s and Women’s Masters (30+) divisions. This will be the first year a Women’s Masters division is on the schedule.

The highlight of the tournament is always the Men’s Elite Division, bringing fast-paced, exciting lacrosse action to the field. Collegiate and post-collegiate club players, as well as some veteran professional players will gather in Vail to battle for the championship starting on July 1 and continuing through July 4.
